OUR HISTORY
Revell Hardware Company was founded January 1, 1950 by Joe and Margaret Revell. The original store was located in the former Cook Center on the corner of Terry Road and Daniel Lake Boulevard in Jackson Mississippi. The original store is pictured above.
In 1957, Mr. Jack Rooks purchased a one-third interest in the company and subsequently purchased the final two-thirds in 1973 upon Mr. Revell’s retirement. In 1976, Mr. Rooks moved the business from Cook Center to 3876 Terry Road in South Jackson and the store continued to operate in that location until 2023.
Jack and Bettie Rooks had seven children and three of them own and manage the day to day operations of the company today: Joe Rooks, Dunaway Rooks and Tim Rooks.
Jack Rooks had a reputation for always going the extra mile and modeled it daily, greeting customers by name, providing knowledge and insight for repair projects, leading employees by example, and having the products needed for customers to complete their projects.
As the saying goes, “There’s very little traffic on the Extra Mile.” Jack Rooks traveled the Extra Mile every day to make sure Revell customers were treated with dignity and respect and that they left Revell with the products and knowledge needed to complete any home repair project.
The Jack Rooks Customer Service Award is presented monthly to a Revell associate who exhibits customer service above and beyond Revell’s high expectations of service to our customers.
REVELL TODAY
Since 1950, Revell has diversified into multiple business categories and has grown to nine locations with seven Ace Hardware stores (Jackson, Pearl, Clinton, Byram, Madison, Richland-Florence and Reservoir-Brandon), an outdoor power equipment center in Pearl (Revell Outdoor Power) and an industrial/commercial supply center (Revell Supply Group in Pearl) selling construction, MRO plant maintenance, welding and safety products.
The seven Ace Hardware stores specialize in paint, hand and power tools, electrical supplies, plumbing fixtures and supplies, builder’s hardware, house wares, lawn and garden supplies as well as automotive supplies. Our Northeast Jackson store in DeVille Plaza has a specialty gift shop operated by Joe’s wife Lisa Rooks. In addition, Revell sells multiple lines of outdoor power equipment (Gravely, Scag, Stihl, Honda and Kress) and we service and warranty what we sell with a full line of parts. We also rent equipment from drain cleaners to carpet machines to trenchers and excavators, just to name a few.
The North Jackson store is a full line hardware store with an additional emphasis on supplies for multi-family properties, including major appliances and appliance repair parts, HVAC accessories, mini blinds, 5-gallon contractor paint, water heaters, and a full line of hardware, plumbing and electrical supplies designed for apartment maintenance. In addition, we offer delivery service to our commercial accounts.
Revell is a 75-year old Mississippi business with the reputation of having products people need at competitive prices coupled with great customer service. We have a knowledgeable staff of motivated employees who are excited about making sure all of our customers receive excellent service. We care deeply about forging long term relationships with all our customers and we have convenient locations throughout the metro area to better serve our customers.
These photos below show Paxton at six years old. I brought Paxton and Graham to the South Jackson store in 1995 on my day off to see their grandfather, Jack Rooks, and Paxton was just clowning around in the aisles with all the cool hardware tools and stuff. Paxton was a very happy child and he was always interested in what dad did for a living and always wanted to help dad with projects.
The photo below shows Joe Rooks(current Owner) with sons Graham (age 4) and Paxton (age 6). This was my day off and I brought them down to the store to visit with my father and former owner, Jack Rooks. The boys loved coming to the store and they loved seeing their grandfather. Graham went on to become a mechanical engineer and Paxton (Revell’s Operations Manager) graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Both boys graduated from MS State University with honors. They learned many life skills at Revell Ace Hardware!
The photo below is of the storefront of the South Jackson store in the late 1990’s. Jack Rooks built this store in 1975 and moved the business from the old Cook Center just down the road to this new location at 3876 Terry Road in 1976. Revell saw tremendous growth after this move over the next 49 years. Revell industrial/commercial division (Revell Supply Group in Pearl, MS) began in this location in the early 80’s.
The two photos below are pictures of Ace Hardware trucks delivering to the back dock of our South Jackson branch. Revell has been an Ace Hardware dealer for the past 50 years of our 75 year existence. Ace Hardware is the largest hardware cooperative in the world today boasting over 5,200 stores nationwide. Revell now operates seven retail Ace Hardware locations in central Mississippi. Anytime you see a Ace Hardware truck in the metro area, it is delivering product to a Revell branch.
The photo below is a picture from the late 1990’s and features two of our former associates, Biff Harris and Marc Massie, serving customers at our front checkout counter. Notice the Case knife display at by the checkout counter. Revell has represented Case for 75 years running and our father, Jack Rooks (Owner for 50 years) passed on to his sons an extensive Case knife collection spanning 50 years. This picture depicts what you see in a Revell Ace store today, well stocked shelves and associates eager to serve our valued customers for 75 years running. Revell would not exist without our incredible staff and our wonderful and supportive customer base!
